<strong>AQAR</strong> <strong>2005</strong>-<strong>2006</strong>, MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, CHENNAI• Bachelor’s programme in Geography, Tourism & Travel Management is anotherinnovative course offered from the current academic year in SFS. This highlysought after course has attracted a large number of students due to the jobopportunities available in the Travel and Tourism Industry.• Master’s programme in Applied Microbiology in SFS was introduced during thisacademic year. The course has attracted a large number of students owing toemployability and research prospects of the course.3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction:A number of innovations were incorporated in the curriculum during the currentacademic year. The Academic Council meetings held on 10 June <strong>2005</strong> and 05 April<strong>2006</strong> approved these suggestions.• The Department of English made major changes in the title and content of variouscourses offered and new textbooks were prescribed for study and reference.Reflecting the commitment of the college community to the protection of theenvironment and sustainable livelihood, a new paper entitled ‘Ecoliterature’ wasintroduced this year.• The Department of Tamil brought in relevant changes in the course content underPart-I Tamil offered to students of B.A./B.Sc./B.Com/BCA/BBA under theChoice Based Credit System.• The Department of Commerce made major changes in the curriculum and alsointroduced a new course on ‘Brand Management’. SPSS has become an integralpart of the course in Computer Programming for PG students. The course on‘Auditing and Entrepreneurial Development’ was restructured with a new coursecontent.• The Department of Physics introduced many innovative courses. Forundergraduate students ‘Energy Physics’ is offered as an elective course and‘Astrophysics’ is offered as an interdisciplinary course. A course on ‘NuclearReactor Physics’ is offered to postgraduate students in addition to the courses onSolid State Physics and Nuclear Physics which will enhance the quality of theprogram.5
