Internal resources generated:The various departments of the college were able to generate resources through grantsand projects to procure new equipment for the laboratories and to enhance class roomteaching and learning. The alumni and well wishers of the concerned departmentshave magnanimously come forward with scholarships for students and also otheraccessories like LCD projectors, Computers, Printers, and Cameras to promote andencourage teaching and learning activities.17. Details of departments getting SAP, COSIST (ASSIST)/DST, FIST, etc:Funds for Improvement of Science and Technology• Department of Chemistry, <strong>Madras</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> <strong>College</strong> received Rs. 32 lakhs fromFIST towards the purchase of equipments and to expose students to Computeraided Chemistry, and Scientific Research methodology at UG and PG level. M.Phil Scholars from MK University, Bharathiar University and BharathidasanUniversity availed the instrumentation facility of the department for their researchprojects.• Department of Zoology, <strong>Madras</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> <strong>College</strong> received Rs. 19 lakhs fromFIST towards the purchase of equipment for Endocrinology and MolecularBiology special papers offered by the department. Both faculty and students areable to avail this facility.18. Community services and other support services:Sensitivity to the needs of the society, spontaneous involvement in the life of theneighborhood community and taking an uncompromising stand for the sociallyunderprivileged have been the hallmark of the college community right from itsinception. Some of the pioneering areas of social involvement were providingremediation to under-achievers in neighbouring schools (RSL) by the members of theNational Service Scheme; providing voluntary medical and paramedical assistance tovillagers by SCM and providing service to the visually challenged by the Students’Service for the Blind.23
