Potassium Chlorate, KC1O3 (monoclinic)Powder Data cardsCardnumber1-059912-571Indexlines3.452. 792.863.462.882.80SourceHanawalt, Rinn and Frevel[1] 1938.Institute of Physics, University College, Cardiff.Additional published patterns. None.NBS sample. The sample of potassium chloratewas obtained from the General Chemical Co.,New York, N.Y., and recrystallized to sharpenthe pattern. Spectrographic analysis showed thefollowing impurities: 0.001 to 0.01 percent eachof aluminum, barium, iron, rubidium, silicon, sodium, and strontium. The color of the sample was white. It isoptically negative with the indices of refractionNa =1.408, N0=L516, and N 7 = 1.524; 2V wasvery small. The d-values of the three strongest lines are:3.45, 3.34, and 2.868 A.Structural data. Zachariasen [2] and [3] in 1928determined that potassium chlorate has the spacegroup CS h P2i/m (No. 11) and 2[KC1031 perunit cell. The unit cell measurements of levingand Ozols and Zachariasen have been convertedfrom kX to angstrom units for comparison withthe NBS values. The density of potassium chlorate calculatedfrom the NBS lattice constants is 2.339 g/cm 3at 26 °C.References[1] J.
