2.2 ORO MissionsDRAFTOak Ridge Operations has a diverse blend of missions, with major national programs inenergy research, national defense, reindustrialization, and environmental cleanup. Weare based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and are responsible for managing programs andfacilities in five states. Oak Ridge Operations is one of eight major Department of Energy(DOE) operations offices located across the United States.Most of our programs are performed in Oak Ridge, at three major DOE facilities locatedon the 35,252-acre Oak Ridge Reservation. These include the Oak Ridge NationalLaboratory, Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant, and the East Tennessee Technology Park. Alsolocated in Oak Ridge is the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education and theAmerican Museum of Science and Energy. These facilities are a unique technologicaland educational resource and a major component of the thriving East TennesseeTechnology Corridor.Oak Ridge Operations also operates the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility,a nuclear physics research center located in Newport News, Virginia.
