6. Road Map to the FutureOnce the current environment <strong>of</strong> information management is known, a road map can bedeveloped to route ORO from its present IM situation to its future goals. The road mapthat has been created for ORO defines the IM projects that address the opportunities forimprovement identified in Section 5. All <strong>of</strong> these projects will contribute to theachievement <strong>of</strong> the goals documented in Section 4. A Master Plan (created andmaintained separately from this IM Plan) will show schedules and interdependencies <strong>of</strong>all road map projects. The ORO CIM Steering Council will concur on assignments andpriorities <strong>of</strong> these projects. The IM goals and objectives (from Section 4) that will besupported through the implementation <strong>of</strong> each corporate-level road map project arelisted in a matrix at the end <strong>of</strong> this section (Section 6).DRAFT6.1 FY 2000 Projects ListThe FY 2000 Projects List <strong>of</strong> road map projects is a compilation <strong>of</strong> projects for whichfunding FY 2000 funding has been requested. This list was arrived at through interviewswith <strong>DOE</strong>-ORO managers and users, previous versions <strong>of</strong> this Plan, and interactions theOffice <strong>of</strong> Science.The projects in this list were prioritized based on the following criteria and given aranking <strong>of</strong> high (h), medium (m), or low (l).6.1.1 Prioritization CriteriaMandated (by law or regulation for example)These are initiatives or investments that have been directly mandated, or are critical to afunction, process, event, or condition that has been mandated.Mission CriticalThese are initiatives or investments that have been deemed critical to accomplishment<strong>of</strong> <strong>DOE</strong>-wide or <strong>DOE</strong>-ORO missions.Contribution to <strong>DOE</strong>-Wide ObjectivesThese are initiatives or investments that not only meet <strong>DOE</strong>-ORO needs, but have beendeemed good candidates for Office <strong>of</strong> Science or <strong>DOE</strong>-wide use.Cost Savings / ROI -DrivenThese are initiatives or investments that <strong>of</strong>fer significant cost savings or otherwiseprovide a sound return-on-investment.<strong>Oak</strong> <strong>Ridge</strong> <strong>Operations</strong>Information Management Plan8/5/97 6-1Revision 0
