2.6 Media Briefings<strong>Husky</strong> Oil representatives have been responsive to media inquires and have endeavoured to build an openrelationship with the local Newfoundland media. Information has been provided to both provincial andnational media outlets through news releases, media briefings and one-on-one interviews. A media briefingwas held in November 1999 by <strong>Husky</strong> Oil officials to announce the results of the 1999 drilling program andapproach for the concept engineering study. In April 2000, <strong>Husky</strong> Oil provided an update to the media onthe production facility selection, why gas <strong>development</strong> is not currently feasible, an overview of the 2000drilling program, the economics of the White Rose project and an overview of <strong>Husky</strong> Oil’s other interestson Canada’s east coast.2.7 Tracking Media Sources<strong>Husky</strong> Oil regularly monitored media agencies province-wide, including newspapers, radio (news reportsand call-in shows) and television news programs. Any issues noted were recorded, assessed andincorporated into the issues database. <strong>Husky</strong> Oil officials followed up with reporters on issues, whenwarranted.2.8 Project Information Distribution<strong>Husky</strong> Oil has completed two mailings of project information. The first mailing in early May 2000 was tothe key informant workshop participants and included the project description, project summary booklet andcomment form from the first series of open houses. In June 2000, the project update summary wasdistributed to workshop participants, the Boards of Directors of the St. John’s Board of Trade and NOIA,and select business and government contacts.A third mailing was done when the Comprehensive Study was submitted to the C-NOPB. A letteroutlining the status of the approval process for the White Rose <strong>oilfield</strong> <strong>development</strong> was sent toworkshop participants, municipal governments in the communities visited during the consultationprogram, and select business and government contacts. This letter also informed people that theComprehensive Study Report was available on the White Rose web site and that a full copy of the reportwas available on request. As of December 2000, 141 copies (hard copies and compact disks) of theComprehensive Study had been distributed.2.9 Internet and Telecommunication SourcesTo improve accessibility and communication, <strong>Husky</strong> Oil established a project information telephone lineand web site for the White Rose <strong>oilfield</strong> <strong>development</strong>. Both the telephone line and web site were widelyadvertised. The web site is updated as new information becomes available. <strong>Husky</strong> Oil has monitored thesesources regularly and recorded all contacts.
