Is there really nothing for youth to do in
Columbia? Make a difference, get
involved, and be an integral part of the
solution all while having fun and making
new friends! These two committees get
young people involved in their community
by planning, organizing and implementing
positive programs and activities for their
peers. In the process they gain self-confidence
and leadership experience. The
commitment is to attend monthly meetings
held at The Barn (Oakland Mils
Village Center) and to assist with the
planning and implementing of various

Sister Cities Summer High School Exchange
Each year during July, high school
students with three years of French or
Spanish language study, can participate
in a month long exchange with one of
Columbia’s two European Sister
Cities: Cergy-Pontoise, France or
Tres Cantos, Spain. Howard County
teens live with a family in France or
Spain for two weeks. The French
and Spanish teens then live with their
American hosts here during the last
two weeks of July.

Scholarship Award
Each year, up to six $2,500 scholarships
are awarded to graduating
Columbia high school seniors who have
shown extraordinary dedication to
performing community service. To
be eligible, students must live on CAassessed
property or have a parent
that works full time on CA-assessed
property, have a minimum of a “C”
average and have a demonstrated
history of voluntary service to the
Columbia community. Applications
will be available online at
ColumbiaAssociation.org/Scholarship.
