solution all while having fun and making<br />

new friends! These two committees get<br />

young people involved in their community<br />

by planning, organizing and implementing<br />

positive programs and activities for their<br />

peers. In the process they gain self-confidence<br />

and leadership experience. The<br />

commitment is to attend monthly meetings<br />

held at The Barn (Oakland Mils<br />

Village Center) and to assist with the<br />

planning and implementing of various<br />

Sister Cities Summer High School Exchange<br />

Each year during July, high school<br />

students with three years of French or<br />

Spanish language study, can participate<br />

in a month long exchange with one of<br />

<strong>Columbia</strong>’s two European Sister<br />

Cities: Cergy-Pontoise, France or<br />

Tres Cantos, Spain. Howard County<br />

teens live with a family in France or<br />

Spain for two weeks. The French<br />

and Spanish teens then live with their<br />

American hosts here during the last<br />

two weeks of July.<br />

Scholarship Award<br />

Each year, up to six $2,500 scholarships<br />

are awarded to graduating<br />

<strong>Columbia</strong> high school seniors who have<br />

shown extraordinary dedication to<br />

performing community service. To<br />

be eligible, students must live on <strong>CA</strong>assessed<br />

property or have a parent<br />

that works full time on <strong>CA</strong>-assessed<br />

property, have a minimum of a “C”<br />

average and have a demonstrated<br />

history of voluntary service to the<br />

<strong>Columbia</strong> community. Applications<br />

will be available online at<br />

<strong>Columbia</strong><strong>Association</strong>.org/Scholarship.<br />
