Lessons<br />

<strong>CA</strong> is committed to providing quality<br />

swimming lessons for members and residents.<br />

Lessons are available at <strong>Columbia</strong><br />

Swim Center, <strong>Columbia</strong> Gym and various<br />

outdoor pools. We hope that your experience<br />

will be beneficial and rewarding to<br />

you and your child.<br />

● Y Waterbabies Ages 6 months to 3 years<br />

Parent participation is required and is an<br />

integral part of this learning experience.<br />

Emphasis is on water adjustment through<br />

group interaction and individual attention<br />

in this 30-minute class.<br />

● Y Preschool and Parent Ages 3-5 years<br />

Parent/caregiver participation is required<br />

and is an integral part of this learning<br />

experience. Goals in this 30-minute class<br />

include: water adjustment, front and back<br />

floating and the ability to swim a distance<br />

on the front and back.<br />

● Y Preschool Level I Ages 3-5 years<br />

For those who are ready to be in a group<br />

setting without a parent/caregiver and<br />

have the ability and willingness to follow<br />

directions from the instructor. Goals in this<br />

30-minute class include: front and back<br />

floating and the ability to swim a coordinated<br />

stroke on the front and back.<br />

● Y School-Age Level I Ages 5-12 years<br />

For those children who are not yet able to<br />

confidently swim 20 yards of each of the<br />

following strokes: freestyle and backstroke.<br />

Goals in this 30-minute class include: water<br />

adjustment, front and back floating and the<br />

ability to swim a coordinated stroke on the<br />

front and back. This class will include a significant<br />

amount of time spent in deep water.<br />

● Y School-Age Level 2 Ages 5-12 years<br />

For those children who are able to swim<br />

a minimum of 20 yards of each of the<br />

following strokes: freestyle and backstroke.<br />

Goals in this 30-minute class include:<br />

introduction of breaststroke, butterfly and<br />

diving. This class will include a significant<br />

amount of time spent in deep water.<br />

● Y ● T Intermediate Stroke Technique<br />

Ages 6-14<br />

For those who can demonstrate an ability<br />

to swim a minimum of 25 yards of both<br />

freestyle and backstroke. Goals in this<br />

30-minute class include stroke improvement<br />

and an introduction to the breaststroke<br />

and butterfly.<br />

● Y ● T Stroke Clinic Ages 6-14 years<br />

For those who can demonstrate an ability to<br />

swim a minimum of 50 yards of each of the<br />

following strokes: freestyle, backstroke and<br />

breaststroke, as well as a basic familiarity of<br />

butterfly. Goals in this 45-minute class<br />

include: starts and turns, stroke improvement<br />

and endurance.<br />

● T ● A ● M Adult Lessons Ages 13 and up<br />

This 30-minute class is geared toward the<br />

true beginner as well as the adult who<br />

wishes to improve stroke techniques.<br />

Indoors only.<br />

● E One-On-One Lessons Ages 3 and up<br />

Tailored for each individual, based on age<br />

and goals. These lessons are available in<br />

10-minute increments.<br />

● A Private Swimming Training<br />

30-minute one-on-one lessons with a<br />

qualified instructor. Designed for adult<br />

triathletes, fitness swimmers and beginners.<br />

Registration Procedures<br />

Registration for BOTH <strong>Columbia</strong> Swim Center and<br />

<strong>Columbia</strong> Gym lessons will be held Sat, Aug 18 at<br />

<strong>Columbia</strong> Swim Center or online beginning at 7am.<br />

Members are encouraged to set up their online<br />

accounts prior to registration. Registration for both<br />

sessions is on-going after Aug 18 on a space<br />

available basis.<br />
