August 2009RIMYICONSTITUTION OF THEIYENGAR YOGA ASSOCIATION OF [ ]1) TITLE AND NATURE OF THE ASSOCIATIONa) The <strong>Association</strong> shall be called <strong>the</strong> <strong>Iyengar</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong> <strong>Association</strong> <strong>of</strong> [ ] hereinafterreferred to as <strong>the</strong> <strong>Association</strong>.b) The President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Association</strong> shall be <strong>Yoga</strong>charya Sri B.K.S. <strong>Iyengar</strong> or hisdesignated successor.c) The <strong>Association</strong> shall be affiliated to <strong>the</strong> Ramamani <strong>Iyengar</strong> Memorial <strong>Yoga</strong> Institute,situated in <strong>Pune</strong>, India, hereinafter referred to as <strong>the</strong> RIMYI.d) The <strong>Association</strong> shall be a not-for-pr<strong>of</strong>it organisation.2) AIMS AND OBJECTSa) To spread <strong>the</strong> teaching <strong>of</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong>charya Sri B.K.S. <strong>Iyengar</strong> and to maintain <strong>the</strong> teachingstandard set by him.b) To provide facilities for <strong>the</strong> instruction and training <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> public in <strong>the</strong> principles <strong>of</strong><strong>Yoga</strong> established by <strong>Yoga</strong>charya Sri B.K.S. <strong>Iyengar</strong>.c) To advance public education in <strong>the</strong> classical teachings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> science <strong>of</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong> basedupon <strong>the</strong> principles <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> highest standards <strong>of</strong> personal conduct and service to o<strong>the</strong>rs.d) To arrange and provide for <strong>the</strong> holding <strong>of</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong> demonstrations, meetings,conventions, lectures and classes.e) To support <strong>the</strong> aims and objects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RIMYI (as set out in Appendix A.).f) To encourage communication, harmony and unity among <strong>Iyengar</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong> practitionersin[ ] and in o<strong>the</strong>r parts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> world.g) To be solely responsible in [ ] for training and assessing applicants forteaching certificates and to issue those certificates as set out in Appendix C. Thecertificates are those <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RIMYI and shall remain <strong>the</strong> property <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Association</strong>.h) To maintain a national register <strong>of</strong> approved teachers <strong>of</strong> <strong>Iyengar</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong>.i) To maintain a national register <strong>of</strong> approved teacher trainers <strong>of</strong> <strong>Iyengar</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong>.j) To publish a magazine and/or o<strong>the</strong>r publications.k) To promote and advance <strong>the</strong> study and <strong>the</strong> practice <strong>of</strong>, and research into, <strong>the</strong><strong>the</strong>rapeutic effects <strong>of</strong>, <strong>Iyengar</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong> as a means <strong>of</strong> improving <strong>the</strong> mental physical andspiritual health <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> community, and to publish <strong>the</strong> useful results <strong>of</strong> any suchresearch.l) To establish and maintain links with <strong>Iyengar</strong> Institutes and groups in [ ] andabroad.m) To employ staff, own property, borrow money, raise funds by subscription, incurexpense or do any o<strong>the</strong>r thing in pursuance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se aims and objects.3) MEMBERSHIPa) Membership shall be open to all practitioners <strong>of</strong> <strong>Iyengar</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong> in [ ].b) Practitioners <strong>of</strong> <strong>Iyengar</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong> may join <strong>the</strong> <strong>Association</strong> in ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> two ways:i) by becoming a member <strong>of</strong> an affiliated Institute or regional association (section 4 & 5);7
