CHILE – RED WINE
CONCHA Y TORO TERRUNYO BLOCK 27
CARMENÈRE 2006
Peumo, Cachapoal, Rapel Valley
This wine was ranked #63 in Wine Spectator’s Top
100 Wines of 2009, receiving a score of 92 points.
TASTING NOTE: The red wines start with the
saturated purple 2006 Carmenere Peumo Vineyard
Block 27. The nose offers up spice box, mineral,
plum, black cherry, and blueberry. This is followed
by a round, mouth-filling plush wine with ripe
underlying tannin, complex, spicy flavors, excellent
density, and a long, fruit-filled finish. Give it 2-3
years and drink it from 2012 to 2021. Score: 94
Father’s Day
ANTU NINQUÉN CABERNET
SAUVIGNON/CARMENÈRE 2008
Colchagua Valley
TASTING NOTE: (70% cabernet sauvignon and
30% carmenere) Deep red. Scents of redcurrant,
cherry and bitter chocolate are lifted by a whiff of
eucalyptus. Juicy and penetrating but surprisingly
supple, with minty cut to the red and black fruit
flavors. Offers insidious sweetness as well as a
zesty, subtly herbal component. Finishes with good
lift and clarity. This could use more bottle age.
Score: 88(+?) (Josh Raynolds, International
Wine Cellar, March/April 2010)
VIÑA TARAPACÁ GRAN RESERVA
CARMENÈRE 2008
Maipo Valley
TASTING NOTE: Aromas of dried herbs, cassis,
and wild field berries do a mighty fine encore on
the palate. This silky smooth, medium-bodied,
impeccably balanced beauty closes with a pleasing,
medium-length finish. Pair this delicious Carmenère
with braised short ribs, chili con carne, spicy
Mediterranean vegetable ragout or pizza. (VINTAGES
AUSTRALIA – WHITE WINE
D’ARENBERG THE MONEY SPIDER
ROUSSANNE 2008
McLaren Vale, South Australia
TASTING NOTE: The 2008 The Money Spider
Roussanne is unoaked. Light gold-colored, It
has an enticing bouquet of honey, candle wax,
and melon aromas followed by a vibrant, ripe,
smooth-textured wine with layers of flavor. Drink
this outstanding effort over the next 2-3 years.
Score: 90 (Jay Miller, www.erobertparker.com,
WAKEFIELD CHARDONNAY 2008
Clare Valley/Adelaide Hills,
South Australia
A ripe, luscious, peach-, nectarine- and citrusscented
wine with well-integrated creamy oak
tones. This clean, balanced, and fruity wine is an
excellent match for roast pork, mushroom risotto
and, as the producer suggests, Chinese spiceencrusted
duck.
AUSTRALIA – RED WINE
BLUE PYRENEES SHIRAZ 2006
Pyrenees, Victoria
TASTING NOTE: Saturated ruby color. Powerful
aromas of blackberry, boysenberry and pungent
herbs, plus a subtle mintiness. Fleshy, smooth
and concentrated, offering gently sweet dark
berry flavors, velvety tannins and a late note of
cola. The herbal note repeats on the finish,
adding complexity to the deep, sappy finishing
boysenberry quality. This could be enjoyed now.
