Zgrada opere u Dubaiju / Opera House in DubaiZaha Hadidby the year and that they will use their subtle sense ofaesthetics and harmony to contribute to the evolution ofarchitecture and design in this century.Andree Putman – The Coco Chanel of Interior DesignNot without a reason, this woman is referred to as theCoco Chanel of interior design. Just as Coco revolutionizedthe way Parisian women dressed, which has beenemulated by the entire world, Andree Putman “liberated”French interior design of its strict forms and figures, while also bringing in elegance and chic that have wonderfullyblended with French taste, as well as conqueredthe world with their casualness and attitude. Born in Parisin 1928, Andree entered the world of design as a journalistfor a French design magazine, but after she realizedthat designing interiors was her mission in life, she openeddesign studio Ecart in 1978. Besides working on the interiorsof Paris’ most prestigious fashion studios (Yves SaintLaurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Azzadine Alaia), Putman spenta lot of time redesigning chosen furniture pieces fromthe early 20th century (such as pieces by Irish designerEileen Gray) by giving them new flare and attention theydeserve. Andree Putman organized exhibitions and furnishedpublic and private interiors all over the world, andshe also started the “design-hotel” trend in the world bydesigning a prestigious hotel The Morgans in New York.Besides interiors, this productive artist also designs fashionaccessories and perfume bottles, while also redesigninginteriors of Concorde airplanes. Naturally, it all falls intothe “tres chic” category, which is only appropriate for thisicon of French design and style.Zaha Hadid – Charismatic Avant-GardeWe already mentioned the charisma of this Iraqi woman,as she now dominates the world of architecture and hasused her amazing work to bring down plenty of men fromher pedestal. Zaha Hadid, born in Baghdad in 1950, attendeduniversities in Switzerland, England and Beirut. Aftergraduating from the Architectural Association Schoolin London, Zaha Hadid worked with Rem Koolhaas amongothers, only to open her own studio in London in 1980 andteach architecture in many different establishments. Herwork is characterized by innovativeness and the tendencyto remove any boundaries in architecture and design.Zaha Hadid uses her concepts of avant-garde artof construction to signalise melting of space and to offera new definition of that spatial figure. That enables her totransmit a whole new incredible feeling of space to theobserver. Despite all of her novelties and her focus on thefuture, the artist makes sure to give plenty of attention tofunctionality, which is reflected in flexible, fluid division ofspace that enables both the old and the new conceptsof utilization. However, succeeding in a man’s world has not beeneasy for her. Only after she won the Pritzker Award in 2004has she become internationally acknowledged and famous. Some of her most famous buildings include VitraFire Station in Germany, Tram Station in Strasbourg, SkiJump in Innsbruck and the centre of contemporary art inCincinnati, USA. As far as interior designs go, it would bedifficult to list all of Zaha’s projects, so let’s just mentionthe purple “Moon” sofa that was the star of the recentlyheld interior fair in Milan. She is one of the most productivearchitects today, while her studio currently works ondozens of projects around the world, including: Centreof Contemporary Arts MAXXI in Rome, Guggenheim Museumin Taichung, a high-speed train station in Naples, square and a cinema centre in Barcelona, main administrationbuilding in Leipzig and many others.Patricia Urquiola – The Queen of Comfortableand Imaginative SeatsSpanish designer Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo, and she studied architecture in Madrid and Milan,23
