After graduatingarchitecture in 1973, she worked with many famous clients, such as Centrokappa, Abet Laminati and Alessi, while also gaining professional experience in the process. The mid-eighties signalled the start of a very importantperiod and a large turning point in her life. She becamea World Bank consultant for Southeast Asia’s image andproduct development. She lived in Hong Kong duringthis period, and that is where she discovered styles ofthe Far East while also finding crucial inspiration for hercurrent projects. “I was fascinated by their craftsmanshiptechniques. They used them to produce somethingcontemporary and modern, even though they used verytraditional methods.” Paola enriched Italian chic and elegancewith a flavour of the Far East, which causes hercreations to have an exotic and specific atmosphere, while still being familiar, accessible and urban enough.“As a very curious person, I’m always continuing to travel.I’m always trying to see the future and predict my development. That is why, during my stay in Asia, I startedto imagine designing a collection that could be differentevery year and could include elementsof different cultures.” PaolaNavone came back from Asia toEurope with that idea in mindand started the Mondo projectwith Giulio Cappellini, and it mustbe said that company Cappellinistill nurtures that project as aseparate collection to this very

Over the last thirty years, Paola Navone used hernumerous and innovative collections, as well as her charismaticpersonality and casualness, to conquer the Italianand world’s designer scene, while her creations still standas role models that start new trends in the contemporaryinterior design.Kelly Hoppen – East Meets WestKelly Hoppen is an English designer that has entered thedesign world as a very young person, and she has ownedher own designer company and brand for over two decades. This ambitious designer is renowned for her eclecticcomfortable furniture with earth-coloured tones, naturalmaterials and ethno-details. Her brand East Meets West isvery famous, and besides working in furniture design, shehas also designed several public objects. Her creations includethe famous Murmuri Hotel in Barcelona, restaurantRhodes in London and the aristocratic Royal Mouginis GolfClub outside of Cannes on the French Riviera. Special attentionmust be given to her design, or should we say redesign,of airplane interiors for the British national airplanecompany British Airways. She also wrote several books ondesign and currently runs a very respected design schoolin London, while also decorating many homes for the richand famous, including Victoria and David Beckham’sCalifornian home that she decorated in record six weeks. As every beautiful and successful woman, she has alwaysfought against stereotypes regarding women, which hasturned her into an inspiration for many young female designersthat want to test themselves in this world, whichhas previously been reserved exclusively for men. Kellyherself says that she succeeded because of her notoriousidealism and her desire to combine the incompatible inher design, which is mostly reflected in her combinationsof old European aristocracy with modern details, whilestill producing plenty of style and care for the tiniest ofdetails.India Mahdavi – Inspired by Different CulturesThis architect and designer has a very interesting life story, which has greatly influenced her chosen profession inlife. Her father is Persian and her mother is half-Egyptianand half-British, while her family often changed its placeof residence, which resulted in India living in 11 differentcountries during her childhood. This multicultural diversitythat she grew up in left a lasting effect on her, and herinspiration with different cultures can still be traced in herdesign. An architect by education, India has designedmany different objects all over the world, includingCandes Hotel in Mexico, On Rivington in New York andTownhouse in Miami, as well as restaurants in London,Philadelphia and Hong Kong. She also designed galleryand boutique interiors for several famous fashion creators, such as Givenchy and Louis Vuitton in Paris. She iscurrently collaborating with Netjets Europe on interiors forMontecarlo Beach Hotel and restaurant Costes at SaintGermain des Pres. Her designer office is located in Paris where she createsdifferent international projects, from architecture to stagedesign, interior design, furniture and details. She originallyworked in architecture after her education, but she soonrealized that designing interiors is her basic passion, andthat passion and originality were also recognized by theprofession as she was presented with several large recognitionsand awards, including the 2006 Gold Women ofthe year Award and the prestigious Maison&Object Designerof the Year Award. Her creations are easily recognizedfor their subtle simplicity and elegance (the MahgdavinaBishop Chair is probably the most famous), whilethe spaces she’s working on always reflect a connectionto the surrounding and the heritage of the environmentin which they’re created.
