General System Design<br />
SIMENV makes use of modern IT concepts. Figure 7<br />
shows the main pathways from the original model to<br />
experiment evaluation and finally model update.<br />
To interface a model with SIMENV the source code of<br />
the original model is trans<strong>for</strong>med by implementing<br />
SIMENV function calls <strong>for</strong> adjustments of p and <strong>for</strong><br />
model output. XML descriptions of adjustments and<br />
model output are generated semi-automatically. Both<br />
XML descriptions and trans<strong>for</strong>mation functions are<br />
adapted from the Typed Data Transfer approach TDT<br />
of the MODENV project at <strong>PIK</strong>.<br />
Experiment per<strong>for</strong>mance supports local, remote, distributed<br />
and parallel architectures.<br />
Experiment-specific result postprocessing enables navigation<br />
in the experiment - model output space and inter-<br />

active filtering of model output and reference data by<br />
statistical operators. Result evaluation will be dominated<br />
by application of pre-<strong>for</strong>med visualization modules and<br />
will offer data interfaces <strong>for</strong> a more detailed result<br />
processing outside SIMENV.<br />
