There are many different ways to access the historical treasures that can be found in online digital free and paid newspaper collections. Learn how to go online to go offline and locate newspapers that have not yet been digitized. Discover some new and old ways to save those online newspaper images including citations. Understanding Some Abbreviations Used in Newspapers Two abbreviations frequently seen in earlier newspapers are “inst.” and “ult.” Ultimo (ult.) is a Latin word indicating that the event took place in the previous month. When instant (inst.) is used, it refers to the same month in which the news event was published.
