INDEXES ON SOCIETY WEB PAGES Some genealogical societies post indexes to records held in archives or the local parish. However, an increasing number of online indexes can be used in conjunction with filmed records available at the Family History Library. Examples include • Die Maus (Bremen society) has posted extracted lists of donations for the poor collected at weddings. This index can be used to find the actual marriage entry in the filmed parish registers. See http://www.die-maus-bremen.de/Datenbanken/index.php • Another database on the Web site of “Die Maus” indexes the pedigrees compiled from civil registration records during 1933-1945. These pedigrees have been filmed. • http://www.db-brandenburg.de/ - The Brandenburg Genealogical Society has posted indexes to church records on this site. • Parish register indexes for Trier and the Eifel region of the Rhineland are available on http://www.genealogienetz.de/vereine/wgff/trier/index.html • http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~eifel/pick/pickindex.html • http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pick/index.html . These indexes can be used in conjunction with the corresponding microfilmed parish registers. PRINTED SOURCES – INDEXES AND IMAGES The familienkundliche Datenbank (family history database), represented by the tab “Literatur” on the home page of genealogy.net, is an on-going project to index published family history sources, including genealogies, town histories, and articles published in genealogical periodicals. It is found at http://famlit.genealogy.net/fkld/maske.pl?db=fkld Search options include: • Author and publisher • Title words and key words • Book- and article titles • Journals and series • Publishers, places/ year published, ISBN • Location housed • Full-text search • Multiple search combinations possible Other collections on www.genealogy.net that deal with printed sources include address books, family announcements in newspapers [mostly 1990 and later], and funeral cards. Funeral Sermons Popular especially in Protestant areas during the 16 th through 18 th Centuries, printed funeral sermons document the lives of more affluent city burghers and lower nobility. New digital indexes have made this record group much more accessible. Leader in this field is the University of Marburg, which has created
a large searchable data base, accessible at http://www.personalschriften.de/ . Several search options are available. Several indexes of funeral sermons compiled for specific regions are also available online, for example the Neumark funeral sermons index at http://www.genealogy.net/reg/BRG/neumark/schrif19.htm . THE DIGIBIB – DIGITAL LIBRARY FOR GENEALOGY The DigiBib, part of www.genealogy.net, makes digital images of important genealogical literature, including family histories, gazetteers, and other reference works, available online. Each month new projects are added in various categories, including parish register inventories, local and regional history, heraldry, and many other topics. These are volunteer projects open for participation. In each category, the small word “mehr” (more) is the link to the complete list of available material. Projects are at various stages of completion. Examples shown include a gazetteer of Hessen, a 1901 church book inventory for the Kingdom of Saxony, and a published genealogy of French Huguenot families who had settled in Berlin. In its finished stage, a transcribed copy of each page in modern type is found on the left side of each page, while it is possible to link to a copy of the original page on the right and enlarge it. The project uses DjVu picture files, which require a special viewer that can be downloaded free of charge. Click on "mehr..." to access the complete list of books available in this category. Among the latest DigiBib projects is an original court record book for Dorn-Assenheim, Kreis Friedberg, Hessen, from the 17 th century.
