Wikipedia’s List of Online Newspaper Archives This is a list of free and pay wall blocked digital online newspaper archives. Most were scanned from microfilm and stored in gif or similar format until converted to text with OCR. The OCR in most cases is used to create the index of searchable text, but some newspapers don't allow access to the OCR-converted text until it has been proof-read. Some of the sites will translate a website into another language. The translations are computer generated and therefore, not perfect. However, it is a wonderful tool to use, when you do not read or write the language being used. Ethnic newspapers are often in another language, but may have more detail for immigrants than the English language newspapers.
