RECOMMENDATIONSI would definitely recommend that type of leadership(teacher as moderator). This project is here first of allfor the students. That way of leadership broadens students’creativity, it envolves social skills, communicationand collaboration with other schools and differentpeople. Participation in this project was good not onlyfor students, but also for me, as a teacher. I would recommendthis type of project to other teachers becauseI learned a lot and gained a great experience.and a bit disappointing because a lot of students havenever heard about these endangered species and theirhabitat. After we analyzed the results, we decided to organisea trip to Bedekovićeve grabe. We learned some newinformation there, and met beautiful sights. We made apresentation about our project, divided into groups of twostudents and visited local schools. The students were openand interested, they eagerly participated in our quizzes.Satisfied with the outcome, we fulfilled our expectations.BIGGEST OUTCOMES OF THE PROJECTThe biggest outcome of our project is that now a lot ofpeople know about location Bedekovićeve grabe andbutterflies we’re trying to protect. Teachers and studentsin our school are interested in endangered species morethan before and they know about the whole „Butterfliesin Arcadia“ project. Also, we managed to educate local community, becausebefore, many people didn’t know about this protectedlocation. Almost everything we’ve done was followed byour local or school newspapers and posted on officialwebsites of our county (www.emedjimurje.hr) and ourschool (www.gimnazija-cakovec.skole.hr).WHAT WENT WELL? WHAT WENT NOT SO WELL?..Our project included students from our school and manystudents from other schools in our county of Međimurje.During the survey a lot of them participated. There weresome students (in other schools) who didn´t realize theseriousness of the survey. Unfortunately, their resultshave had to be removed.Recent lectures and presentation about our project„Butterflies in Arcadia“ and promotion of the ESFALPproject in other schools have gone very well. Studentswere interested and willing to participate so we don’thave any „open questions“, we‘ve solved all the problems.IMPACT ON THE SCHOOL’S EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMWe have started to use new methodologies, for examplequestionaires and surveys which were well acceptedin our school. It helped us to find out certain informationwhich was very important for our project. Studentsalso began to pay more attention to the protected areaBedekovićeve grabe and they certainly have becomemore environmentally friendly.HOW DID YOU CELEBRATE?We did not celebrate yet. We had a small celebration lastweek with other partcipants of ESFALP project fromNedelišće and Prelog, but we have a deal that the maincelebration will be in May with teachers and students fromNedelišće and Prelog. All together, we will organise a paintballtournament in a beautiful forest near Čakovec.Projects Report 17
