the International Day of the Water. We kept a “water-day”in our school. We made a presentation about the importanceof the protection of the water to our school.RECOMMENDATIONSTry to collect as much data with the pupils before thechoosing of the topic.April: Visit of the council. Handover of the petition to themayor. Survey how many family house are not connectedto the waterworks and the sewer. Get to know the ways ofthe water treatment and their efficiency and the importanceof the future developments.Walking for water: We joined the national campaignorganized by the E-miszió foundation, which’s goal is to raiseawareness of the students to the importance of saving water.Walk to the Kiscsere brook that is 3 kilometres away fromour school, dip 6 litres of water from the brook per personand take it back to the school. We wanted to demonstrateto the pupils how hard is for those who walks as much aswe did for the daily drinking water. This is only 6 litres ofwater. We waste 130 litres of water a day, we should walkthat distance 23 times a day.Closing of the project: We organized a regional contestwith the participation of 8 schools, which’s topic was theprotection of the water.ACHIEVED OBJECTIVESWe succeeded to raise the awareness of the pupils, adultsand teachers to devote more attention to the clearness of thedrinking water, and to care more for the protection of theirnarrower, wider environment. Be interested in the stateof our village and the planned developments. Take partyactively on the municipal council meetings. We succeededto achieve that they to use their citizen rights. They dare toask questions about the present and future plans from therepresentatives. They dare to give advices, criticizes the deficiencies. They don’t just plug their head into the sand, theydare to talk about the topic on the courtyard of the school, inthe educators room and on the streets too. They raised theirvoice against the dysfunctional sewage plant, and the periphrasticsmell. They asked the local government to disclosethe data of the inspection of the drinking water quarterly.Make public forums again. We didn’t have such forum since3 years, where the population can be informed about the updates. Finally they feel like they can have a say into the fate ofthe village. The pupils could experience what kind of rightsthey have and how they can exercise them.BIGGEST OUTCOMES OF THE PROJECTThe pupils and the teacher were equally shocked aboutthe data of our presentation, and the experience of thegermination experiment. They use detergents, dishsoaps, acid and different descalers in the householdsdaily. They rashly spill the fried oil into the garden. They don’t think about it’s getting back into the drinkingwater and what kind of damages it can cause. It becamethe topic of the parent conference too. The pupilscounted that who uses how many chemicals in theirhome. We are going to repeat the survey at autumnand we are going to compare the results. We hope for adecrease. We would like to reach that they collect thefried oil and there shall be a collection site, where theycan hand it down. The local government made a promisethat they are going to establish a collection site.WHAT WENT WELL? WHAT WENT NOT SO WELL?..The choosing of the topic and the work of the studentswent without problems. The public utilities hardly gave apermission to visit their sites. The hardest was to organizethe visit of the sewage plant. The mayor was pleased to welcomeus and he accepted with pleasure that the studentsare interested in the protection of the water. We got ourmoney in the last moment because of the reorganizations.IMPACT ON THE SCHOOL’S EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMMy colleagues really liked the pupils’ presentation and the fillof the pool after the presentation. The data we collected wasshocking to them. They found it very good idea to brush up theheard things with the test, which were to be filled in groupwork. We succeeded to stimulate pupils in active participation.HOW DID YOU CELEBRATE?We planned a monumental event as the closing of theproject. For the honor of the name giver of our school we organizeda series of contests that lasted for 2 weeks, which’sclosing we organizedan environmental protectional contestto the pupils of the county. The topic of the contest was theprotection of the water. At the end of the contest the winnergroups got a certificate and gifts. After the awards ceremonywe showed our presentation and the achieved results. Projects Report 31
