Residence timeWith the increment of the residence time decreasesthe resistance.ConcentrationIn aqueous solutions, the resistance decreases with aconcentration increment.chanical tensions or only with agents, such a damagedoes not take place. In amorphous polymers, as forexample ZX-410 and ZX-410V7T, the resistance tostress cracking must be checked, before using themwith chemicals. In these cases, please contact us.Degree of crystallinityThrough the crystallization, a big part of the crystallinestructure increases its resistance, thanks toa more densely packed crystalline structure. Consequentlythe penetration of agents will be moredifficult.Filler materials... as e.g. fibres reduce the resistance. Fibres actlike capillary, and enable a faster penetration of theagents into polymers. On the other hand, fibres leadto a structure deformation reduction and, consequently,to an increment of the stress cracking resistance.Polymer internal stress levelThe internal structure, through internal tensions, willdeform and by doing so it will create free space betweenthe chains, and therefore it will easily permitthe penetration of agents. Thus the resistance will bereduced. These free spaces created by internal tension, are many times bigger in amorphous structuresthan in crystalline structures. This causes the lowerresistance of the amorphous materials (see “Resistanceto stress cracking”).Resistance to stress crackingWhen amorphous polymers are exposed to tensions, these can also be internal tensions caused by processing, the crystal lattice structure will change. Thisgenerates free spaces, thus it produces stress cracksand therefore permit an easy and deep penetration ofagents in the amorphous polymers. At this point deep cracks are developed, and thisleads the workpiece to the breakdown.
