This warrants a single, multidisciplinary GECProgramme with a governance structure driven by societal-level questions of the day (e.g.food security). Failure to establish a such a framework risks holding back the enhancedinterdisciplinary research agenda and innovative stakeholder partnerships needed to develop anovel way of producing scientific knowledge, the so called ‘Mode 2 research’.
