The winners willhave celebrated, wiped off the confetti, popped their balloons, and, by now, gone quietly backto doing what they do so well: creating the next generation of technological innovations, orinspiring the next generation of engineers. Please allow us one last shout-out to the people whokeep us all up at night, wondering how we ourselves can do better. On the following pages, you’ll read about why Kathryn Kranen, president and CEO of JasperDesign Automation, received the Lifetime Achievement Award; why Steve Hageman is oursecond Jim Williams Memorial Contributor of the Year Award winner; why a certain team atMaxim was named Design Team of the Year; and why TI’s Yogesh Ramadass is Innovator ofthe Year. The award is meantto honor the people and companies behindthe technologies and products that arechanging the world of electronics. That isa common theme when you look at pastrecipients, which include Gordon Moore,Wilf Corrigan, and Morris Chang. KathrynKranen has changed the industry not justKathryn Kranen has changed theEDA industry not once but twice.once, but twice over. She has led twostart-ups to success, and in each case shehas transformed an emerging technologyinto a mainstream one. She first succeededin doing that with Verisity Design Inc,an early verification automation company, and quickly grew it from being aninteresting idea to the primary verificationstrategy in use by top semiconductorcompanies. Kranen has done that againat Jasper Design Automation by turningformal verification from a technology thatAWARD IMAGE: TRISH TUNNEY36 EDN | MAY 2013 [ www.edn.com ]
