<strong>MIL</strong>-<strong>HDBK</strong>-<strong>502</strong>: ACQUISITIONALOGISTICSMaintainabilityThe measure of the ability of an item to be retained in, or restored to,specified condition when maintenance is performed by personnel havingspecified skill levels, using prescribed procedures <strong>and</strong> resources, at eachspecified level of maintenance <strong>and</strong> repair.ExampleThe vehicle will have a mean time to repair (MTTR) that does not exceed2.0 hours at X maintenance level.Manpower SupportabilityThe consideration of the total supply of persons available <strong>and</strong> fitted tosupport a system. It is identified by slots or billets <strong>and</strong> characterized bydescriptions of the required people to fill them.ExamplesPerformance of duties will be accomplished by soldiers within the physicalcapabilities specified in AR 611-201 for each MOS designated to support,operate, maintain, repair, <strong>and</strong> supervise the employment of the system.Introduction of the 15/30/60 KW generators into the Army inventory willnot cause an increase in the number of personnel to operate or supportthem in excess of those required to run DoD generator sets.Human FactorsThe design of man-made devices, systems, <strong>and</strong> environments to enhancetheir use by people. Also called human engineering or ergonomics.ExampleThe operational controls shall be within arm’s reach for the 95thpercentile of soldiers.Training RequirementsThe processes, procedures, techniques, training devices, <strong>and</strong> equipmentused to train civilian <strong>and</strong> active duty <strong>and</strong> reserve military personnel tooperate <strong>and</strong> support a materiel system. Those include individual <strong>and</strong> crewtraining; new equipment training; initial, formal, <strong>and</strong> on-the-job training;<strong>and</strong> logistic support planning for training equipment <strong>and</strong> training deviceacquisitions <strong>and</strong> installations.6-10
