In business management, theconcept translates into reducing theenvironmental impacts of the productionprocess and of products, encouragingbest practices in the supply chainand developing communities where weoperate. A common feature of all actionsis education for sustainability thatwe seek to promote in all relationshipswith strategic publics.With regard to products and investmentin communities, our history is long andfull of achievements. Our compressorsare highlighted globally for energy efficiency,which in practice means lowerenergy consumption throughout theirlife cycle. In addition, we are innovatingby creating new compressorsthat dispense the use of lubricant oil.We are also systematically decreasingthe amount of raw materials usedin the manufacture of compressorsand reducing the use of rare metals orthose which have few natural reserves,like copper, for example. Our idea is toreplace them with lighter and moreabundant alternatives. The replacementprocess began some years agoand brought good results in 2010. Wewere able to produce 15% of all compressorsusing aluminum wire insteadof copper. In addition to the environmentalbenefits, the financial impactswere immediate with significant costsavings. Our goal is to reach 2013 with40% of our compressors being manufacturedwith aluminum wires.
