2012-13 Government Mid-year Financial Projections StatementFisheriesExpensesAdditional Shark Mitigation StrategiesAn additional $3.6 million has been provided over the forward estimates period for arange of shark surveillance and tagging initiatives and a community awareness program,to reduce the likelihood of shark attacks along the Western Australian coastline.This forms part of a new $6.9 million shark mitigation package, with the remainingamounts to be spent by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet ($500,000) and theDepartment of Commerce ($2.2 million), in addition to minor capital expenditure by theDepartment of Fisheries ($600,000).Enhancing Service DeliveryAn additional $1.9 million has been provided in 2012-13 to provide a more financiallysustainable expenditure base. Appendix 3Regional Development and LandsExpensesNorthampton Lead InvestigationAn additional $1.3 million will be spent in 2013-14 to undertake an investigation into thepresence and distribution of lead tailings in the town of Northampton and develop amanagement strategy for impacted properties.South West Development CommissionExpensesImproving Facilities in the South WestAn additional $5.4 million will be spent in 2012-13 to facilitate the redevelopment ofopen space and ageing public housing in the Bunbury suburb of Withers, construction ofpedestrian walkways and cycle ways in Busselton, and the first leg of the Margaret Riverperimeter road.Western Australian Land AuthorityAsset InvestmentGeraldton Batavia Coast Marina Stage 2An additional $18.4 million will be spent across the forward estimates period to undertakefurther development of Geraldton’s waterfront to revitalise a 6.14 ha stretch of vacantland currently separating the city’s central business district from its marina.Once complete, the Batavia Coast Marina precinct will offer a master-planned mix ofcommercial, residential and tourism developments within landscaped surrounds andpublic open space for the community to enjoy.Royalties for Regions - Pilbara Cities – Port Hedland Spoilbank MarinaAn additional $63.6 million will be spent across the forward estimates period on theSpoilbank Marina Precinct development that will revitalise Port Hedland, delivering avibrant mix of activities including recreational boating facilities, a hotel, mixed usedevelopment, caravan park and public open spaces.Revised Financial ForecastsThe revised financial estimates reflect the Authority’s strategic direction in terms of landsales, acquisitions and development expenditure. These forecasts encompass a range ofmeasures such as deferring development expenditure and acquisitions on a number ofprojects in order to remain within existing debt levels.107
