Network Configuration—PPPPPP over ATM (PPPoA, RFC 2364) offers encapsulating PPP frames on ATM AAL5frames. This protocol is used on some ATM-based broadband access services, suchas ADSL.In this chapter we will look into the following:• Setting up PPP client• Setting up PPP server• Setting up PPPoE client• Setting up PPPoE serverSetting up PPP ClientThere are two methods to set up a PPP client on a FreeBSD host: either by using UserPPP or by using Kernel PPP.Using ppp(8) and a configuration file that is typically located at /etc/ppp directory, you can set up a PPP connection over a serial line or other media types thatare supported. There are also a few examples for different PPP scenarios located at /usr/share/examples/ppp that can be taken as a reference when trying to set up complexPPP configurations. To set up a PPP session using the ppp(8) daemon, you need to create a newentry in the /etc/ppp/ppp.conf file. A typical PPP configuration file looks likethe following:default:set log Phase Chat LCP IPCP CCP tun commandident user-ppp VERSION (built COMPILATIONDATE)set device /dev/cuad1set speed 115200set dial "ABORT BUSY ABORT NO\\sCARRIER TIMEOUT 5 \\"\" AT OK-AT-OK ATE1Q0 OK \\dATDT\\T TIMEOUT 40 CONNECT"set timeout 180enable dnsmyisp:set phone 333 456 7890set authname USERNAMEset authkey PASSWORDset ifaddr 10.0.0.1/0 10.0.0.2/0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0add default HISADDR[ 146 ]
