Network Configuration—Routing and BridgingFlagHLMRSUWXDescriptionHost entry (represents network entry if flag is not present)Valid protocol to link address translationModified dynamically (by redirect)Host or network unreachableStatic route (manual entry)UsableGenerated from cloningExternal daemon translates proto to link addressStatic RoutingYou can manipulate the routing table manually using the route(8) utility. Usingthis utility, you can add static routes, modify an existing routing entry, remove aroute, display routing table information and monitor the routing table changes. To add a static routing entry to a routing table, you should use the route addcommand, as given in the following example:# route add 172.21.30.0/24 10.1.1.5add net 172.21.30.0: gateway 10.1.1.5The above command adds an entry to the routing table that makes the system routepackets for destination 172.21.30.0/24 subnet to 10.1.1.5.The next-hop (in the above example: 10.1.1.5) should be on the samesubnet with your FreeBSD router. In fact, the next-hop cannot be multiplehops away from your host, and the MAC address for this host should bediscoverable using ARP. Otherwise, the route cannot install the entry inthe routing table. To add a default gateway to your routing table, you can add either 0.0.0.0/0subnet or use the default keyword:# route add default 10.1.1.2This will add 10.1.1.2 as the default gateway to the routing table.[ 160 ]
