SEXUAL ASSAULT1. If the assault is witnessed, do not attempt to interfere or apprehend the assailant. Call911 immediately.2. If the person assaulted or who knows of the incident should contact Security or Directorof Student Services. 911 should be contacted immediately.3. Security or the Director of Student Services will gather information and complete theIncident Report Form. The Director of Student Services will file internal reports.4. Campus authorities can assist a student in reporting violations at a student’s request.5. If the alleged perpetrator is a student, Director of Student Services will pursue for furtherinvestigation and disciplinary action.6. Student Services personnel will be available to assist and provide support services,emotional support, and referral to local hospitals, the Wellness Corporation, crisisprograms, and sexual assault programs.7. Depending on the nature and the circumstances of the incident the Director of StudentServices, with input from the Executive Committee and the Senior Director ofCommunications may prepare a statement.Long Term/Preventative:Ongoing training on sexual assault awareness, prevention and procedures for staff, faculty,residence staff, and students.Awareness/educational programs to promote awareness and prevention of rape and othersexual offenses.46
SUBSTANCE ABUSEUnder the InfluenceCrisis: A person is acting drunk, high, or impaired while on campus property or at acampus-sponsored event.- In all cases an assumption should not be made about the reason for the condition. Theperson in authority observing the situation needs to gather as much information aspossible and should address any concern about observable behavior.- If the nature of the impairment is unknown, the Director of Student Services should becontacted to determine the problem and to ensure the individual’s well being (in the caseof an employee, Human Resources will handle).- Someone impaired or acting under the influence of substances should not be permittedto stay in the building. They should be asked to leave by the department manager,Human Resources Manager or other member of the Executive Committee. If theindividual is cooperative but appears potentially dangerous to him/herself or others dueto the impairment contact the Director of Student Services or the Human ResourcesManager. The Director of Student Services or the Human Resources Manager will callsomeone (family, roommate, friend, etc.) to escort him or her home or call a taxi, if noone is available. If the individual is uncooperative, contact the police.- The witnessing staff or faculty member will complete the Incident Report Form in asmuch detail as possible and submit copies to their Department Manager and to theDirector of Student Services. The Department Manager and Director of Student Serviceswill determine whom else needs to be involved to handle the problem based on thenature of the situation.- The Director of Student Services will take disciplinary action if the incident involved astudent. If an employee, the appropriate Department Manager or Human ResourcesManager will take action.Long Term/Preventative:- Ongoing training for staff, faculty, and students is available about Argosy University’sDrug-Free environment policy and how to handle situations, consequences orinfractions.- Ongoing awareness programs are available about substance abuse issues particular tocollege students.- Wellness Corporation may serve as a strong resource for many materials and individualsupport.47
