- Ask directly about thoughts of suicide. For example, “Have you thought of hurtingyourself?” If suicidal thoughts are expressed it is important to contact Hopeline at 1-800-784-2433. Call 9-1-1 (dial 9 first if using a campus phone) if there is an apparentimmediate threat of suicide.- Listen <strong>and</strong> offer emotional support, underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> patience.- Convey the message that depression is real, common <strong>and</strong> treatable. Suicidal feelingsare real <strong>and</strong> preventable.- Offer to accompany the student to Student Services for referral to the WellnessCorporation.Resources- If a student needs help, please contact 9-1-1 (dial 9 first if using a campus phone).Counselors are available through the Wellness Corporation <strong>and</strong>/or one of the resourcesbelow are also available.
