Functions <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bar</strong> <strong>Council</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>India</strong>.— (1) <strong>The</strong> functions <strong>of</strong>the <strong>Bar</strong> <strong>Council</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>India</strong> shall be—………..………..(h) to promote legal education and to lay downstandards <strong>of</strong> such education in consultation with theUniversities in <strong>India</strong> imparting such education and theState <strong>Bar</strong> <strong>Council</strong>s;(i) to recognise Universities whose degree in lawshall be a qualification for enrolments as an advocateand for that purpose to visit and inspect Universitiesor cause the State <strong>Bar</strong> <strong>Council</strong>s to visit and inspectUniversities in accordance with such directions as itmay give in this behalf;………..………..”Section 10 <strong>of</strong> the Advocates Act contemplates the constitution <strong>of</strong> a legaleducation committee as a standing committee by BCI:“10. Constitution <strong>of</strong> committees other than disciplinarycommittees –…….…….(2) <strong>The</strong> <strong>Bar</strong> <strong>Council</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>India</strong> shall constitute the followingstanding committees, namely :-(b) a legal education committee consisting <strong>of</strong> tenmembers, <strong>of</strong> whom five shall be persons elected by the<strong>Council</strong> from amongst its members and five shall bepersons co-opted by the <strong>Council</strong> who are notmembers there<strong>of</strong>.REPORT OF 3-MEMBER COMMITTEE ON REFORM OF LEGAL EDUCATION
