<strong>The</strong> Vision for Reform 24research capabilities <strong>of</strong> the legal education system. In particular,lack <strong>of</strong> funds has led to underpaid faculties in numerous lawcolleges across the country and has also acted as a deterrent formany aspiring law teachers from actively pursuing the academiclife.(iii)Reform <strong>of</strong> inspection and recognition procedures: It has alsobeen recommended that the area <strong>of</strong> inspection and recognition<strong>of</strong> law colleges by BCI needs immediate attention for thepurpose <strong>of</strong> revolutionalizing legal education in <strong>India</strong>.Anumber <strong>of</strong> responses suggest in-built checks and balanceswithin the inspection and recognition system to ensure thatinstitutions imparting legal education are not able to operatewithout prior permission from BCI – for which they should beable to satisfy certain minimum eligibility criteria.(iv)Introduction <strong>of</strong> accreditation/rating system: Also recommendedis the introduction <strong>of</strong> an accreditation/rating system for legalinstitutions. It is strongly felt that lack <strong>of</strong> such a rating systemhas led to a number <strong>of</strong> mediocre teaching and researchinstitutions, while law colleges pioneering innovative methods<strong>of</strong> research and teaching have constantly decreased.Anaccreditation/rating system would indeed be extremelyREPORT OF 3-MEMBER COMMITTEE ON REFORM OF LEGAL EDUCATION
