The Message of James Allen:
“As with the natural scientist, so with the divine scientist; he must pursue, with the same self-
sacrificing diligence, five progressive steps in the attainment of self – knowledge, self - control.
These five steps are: Introspection, Self-analysis, Adjustment, Righteousness and Pure –
Knowledge.
“Life is a great school for the development of Character, and all, through strife and struggle, vice
and virtue, success and failure, are slowly but surely learning the lessons of wisdom”
“Man is the doer of his own deeds; as such he is the maker of his own character; and as the doer
of his deeds and the maker of his character, he is the moulder and shaper of his destiny”
“What so ever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might”
“Four of these principles are – Justice, Rectitude, Sincerity and Kindness. These four
ethical truths are to the making of a life what the four lines of a square are to the building of a
house”
Summing up: The Sun and the Moon are the two celestial objects that light the world. The Sun
rises in the East and sets in the West. The Moon rises in the West at night and travels to the East
before it sets. Both shed light. The Sun is bright and hot and the Moon is dim and cool light.
Similarly, Sri Ramana Maharishi is the ‘Arunachala’ the Sun from East. His effulgence brought
followers from the West and made his teachings known universally. Similarly, James Allen
from the West is in the Moon. His thoughts made philosophical and spiritual journey and
influenced V.O. Chidhambaram Pillai, an eminent freedom fighter of Tamil Nadu and Dr.M.S.
Udayamoorthy, a great exponent of ‘Thought Process Studies’ of Chennai. East and West to
transform mind and mankind.
