This project adopted an open protocol for data collection, meaning that we tried to remain asunstructured and participatory as possible. Our team began with had three women, less than aperfect gender balance, but the nature of our interviews did not preclude men from gettingimportant data. Because we had a range of ages, and the views of younger women were moreaccessible to our younger men participants, this was largely overcome. In addition, our teamwas socially broad, ranging from settlement kids to a soldier, a media figure, and HELPResources employees. While the team had experience studying another fish factory, and thus weunderstood what we thought we needed to know, the presence of our Wewak-based volunteerssignificantly shaped the direction and substance of our interviews. We began with a list ofquestions for landowners, and a list for factory workers, which formed the basis of semistructuredinterviews. We also began with a list of people/departments to query, which wedivided amongst us; and from these we followed up on suggested names and groups to question.Every Wednesday and Sunday afternoon were our group debriefings, while the group of teamleaders, from Nancy Sullivan, Ltd., debriefed daily because we were housed together.Scheduled meetings and interviews25 June 25-3 July Workshop4 Meni Village/Muschu island/ Stanley Kaus/Alex Anis5 Market interviews6 Nuigo Settlement/Team meeting7 Kaunum family, Meni Village/ Augustin Wombi/Kreer Market Camp8 Alex Numbudu/Serah Mambu/Nuigo Settlement9 Augustin Numbia/Marienberg10 Market interviews/Team meeting11 Sister Celine, Catholic Health Resources/Joe Andi12 Hawain meeting/ Kapmandu Service Station /Melisa Kara/ Patrick Ginimbo/Elijah Rusa/Robin Karo/Robert keme, Michael Saulep13 Maryline/ Gertrude Baiso/ Francis Waviki/Market interviews/ Team meeting14 Bruce Samban/ Partin Patikec/Teresa Nawape/Mangau,Suk, Bonam and Mosaninterviews/ESIA, Bismark and Nusa Group interviews15 Yawasoro/Saure/ESIA Landowners meeting /Visit to SST /Jacline/MareinbergStation/Koiken Village16 Brother Bertrand Webster/ Joe Salle17 Yawasoro/Saure/ESIA and Saure Landowners meeting18 Market interviews19 Andrew Wanyia /Paul Loff20 Elijah Nawapi/ Raymond Kondang/Paul Samore/ Herman Samore/Jeves Hoibi/Jacob Elaxo21 Kreer Village, Meni Village22 Nuigo Settlement23 Kreer Village24 Team meeting25 Fishermen interviews26 Fishermen interviews27 Team meetingPartial list of interviewees:Petrus SagomDaul WesupKearly SurumWillie SangiLawrence HervinguAlex SowengBrain SowengPius HuipiaFrancis KruferLuke PimiGertrude BAlex Numbudu18
