BOARD OF SELECTMENUse <strong>of</strong> Property Maintenance Trust Funds: Several maintenance needs were addressed this past year includinginsulation improvements in several buildings; heat exchanger replacements at the Police, Fire, andCommunity Development buildings; re-striping the parking lot at Griffin Park; and exterior painting <strong>of</strong> theCommunity Development Building. Next year, we plan to use funds in the Trust to continue various energyefficiency measures as outlined in the Energy Audit. This Audit was conducted in conjunction with our LocalEnergy Committee through the assistance <strong>of</strong> OEP grant funds. These measures include such things asreplacing the garage doors at the Community Development Department and replacing windows at the PoliceStation. We also plan to paint the trim areas <strong>of</strong> the Bartley Building and Senior Center, as well as one or both<strong>of</strong> the Police and Fire Stations. The final use <strong>of</strong> the funds will be determined following staff’s annual review<strong>of</strong> all buildings and prioritization <strong>of</strong> maintenance needs.Bond Releases and Road Acceptances: Upon the recommendation <strong>of</strong> the Planning Board, several road bondreleases were approved. In addition, entire or portions <strong>of</strong> the following were accepted as <strong>Town</strong> roads: CristyRoad, Ryan Farm Road, Orchard Blossom Road, Governor Dinsmore Road, and Burnham Road.Donations: As in past years, the <strong>Town</strong> was blessed to be the recipient <strong>of</strong> many donations <strong>of</strong> equipment, funds,and services. We extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude to those who gave so generously to ourcommunity. On behalf <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Town</strong>, we would like to recognize some <strong>of</strong> the donations received:• $2,150 in value for various donations <strong>of</strong> both cash and goods from area businesses to help provideseveral Business Education Seminars and to support the Economic Development website coordinatedby the Community Development Department and the WEDC.• $1,315 in value from various donations <strong>of</strong> both cash and goods from area businesses and residents tohelp with the annual <strong>Town</strong> Day, Senior Picnic, Senior Christmas Party and other recreation events.• $782 in value towards Police radios from the State <strong>of</strong> New Hampshire.• $3,899 in value for a Mule vehicle for the Police Department from Naults Honda.• $1,000 in value for furniture for the Fire Department from Cubicle Solutions.• $700 in value for furniture for the Fire Department from Lovesac Company.• $3,500 in value for a copier machine for Administration from a business owner.• $700 in value for server equipment for the IT Department from a private resident.• $700 towards the costs associated with mosquito spraying on the recreational areas from the <strong>Windham</strong>Baseball S<strong>of</strong>tball League.Personnel: While no new positions were created, 2012 marked yet another year in which our variousdepartments and Board were active in recruiting new employees to replace those that either retired or left theemploy <strong>of</strong> the town to pursue other opportunities. Both individuals have served the town and the Police Department since 1998and 2005 respectively, and certainly are well deserving <strong>of</strong> their advancements. Similarly, we recognize thefollowing employees who retired: Firefighter Mike Mistretta in February after 14 years; Captain Carl Wagnerin July after 24 years; Virginia Gray after 13 years; Sergeant Glenn Record after 26 years, and; Al Barlow atyear end after 14 years as our Maintenance Director. We wish all <strong>of</strong> them our best.As we enter into 2013, we are anxious to continue to work on several <strong>of</strong> our objectives begun in 2012,including the implementation <strong>of</strong> several more energy and weatherization measures; a new staff structure forour highway, maintenance, and solid waste departments; reviewing potential town lands to be sold and placedback on the tax rolls; and working with both the Police and Fire Unions on resolving our contract impasses.As we approach each project and decisions to be made, we do so with our commitment to work in the bestinterest <strong>of</strong> the town and its residents. We welcome your involvement and encourage all to come to ourmeetings or to get involved on one <strong>of</strong> the many boards and committees that annually seek volunteers to serve.The past several years have challenged all <strong>of</strong> us to work as efficiently as possible while maintaining thecritical services and needs <strong>of</strong> our residents. We are fortunate to have both a strong group <strong>of</strong> employees whowork so diligently to provide these services, as well as so many dedicated volunteers who give <strong>of</strong> themselvestirelessly to serve their community in a myriad <strong>of</strong> ways.
