34Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Limerick, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Monaghan,Offaly, Roscommon, Tipperary (S.R.), Waterford, Westmeath,Wexford <strong>and</strong> Wicklow, are indicative <strong>of</strong> the general nature <strong>of</strong> thework done throughout the country, <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> the extent <strong>and</strong> nature <strong>of</strong>the defects noted at the Medical Inspections <strong>of</strong> the children in theschools.County Borough <strong>of</strong> Dublin.-In the report <strong>of</strong> the School MedicalOfficer for <strong>1936</strong> it is pointed out that while medical inspection <strong>and</strong>treatment are important features <strong>of</strong> the Service they are incidentalto prevention, <strong>and</strong> the main object <strong>of</strong> the School Medical Service isnot to find defects <strong>and</strong> treat them, but to keep all children fit <strong>and</strong> well<strong>and</strong> ensure that they leave school with a sound knowledge <strong>of</strong> healthyliving.During the year <strong>1936</strong>, 23,671 children were medically examined onthe same lines as those adopted since the inception <strong>of</strong> the scheme in1928.
