PageEPMC SERVICES FOR REWARI – KANPUR PIPELINE PROJECTBASIS OF DESIGN (PIPELINE)All sections of buried pipeline shall be provided with temporary protection by the installation ofsacrificial magnesium ribbon anodes, as soon as the pipeline is laid and shall remain until thepermanent protection is commissioned.The magnesium ribbon shall be installed in chemical backfill and shall provide TCP to the pipelineuntil the permanent ICCP system is energised. The ribbon anode shall be suitable for a minimum 2year life.The temporary anodes shall be disconnected from the pipeline once the permanent ICCP system isenergised.The length of magnesium ribbon anode shall be installed at approximately 10km intervals and atlocations such as directionally drilled crossings. Additional ribbon and/or temporary test points shallbe installed so that the total current output of the anodes exceeds the current demand for the pipelineby 25%. The initial current demand for the pipeline shall be assumed to be 3μA/m 2 .For pipeline sections likely to be affected by stray currents due to DC railways, alternative forms oftemporary protection may be required based on the findings of monitoring surveys duringconstruction. The alternative forms of protection include the following:• Installation of cross bonds between the pipeline and foreign pipelines that are already CPprotected (provided permission is granted by the Foreign Service owner).• Installation of natural drainage units at DC railway crossings.• Installation of temporary ICCP systems.• Installation of the permanent ICCP systems as pipeline construction proceeds and energisationof these systems as soon as practical.For pipeline sections affected by stray currents, monitoring shall be performed weekly as constructionproceeds. For pipeline sections not affected by stray currents, monitoring shall be performedfortnightly.5.10.5 Lightning ProtectionAs the pipeline is a good conductor for the earthing of lightning, the following measures shall beimplemented to protect personnel and equipment from lightning strikes:• All aboveground facilities shall be adequately earthed.• Insulating joints shall be bridged with suitably rated solid-state surge diverters.• ICCP units shall be provided with input and output surge protection.• Field instruments shall be designated to be intrinsically safe and equipped with surgeprotection.n:\513-mh-2145-rkpl\11 engineering\11.8 pipelines\02 bod\working\mh2145-c000-pl-bod-0001_rev 0 .doc EV435-JH0902-00-GEN-BOD-0001 Rev 025 of 34

The stress introduced by itscurvature will be calculated to ensure that the pipeline will not exceed maximum stress levels as perASME B 31.4.5.10.8 Cold Field BendsField bends are formed by the cold bending process in accordance with an approved Procedure andOISD-141 Clause 11.6.The cold field bends for the Rewari to Kanpur pipeline shall have minimum radius of 40D as per OISD141.Back-to-back cold field bends are not permitted. A minimum 2m tangent for each bend shall beprovided.5.10.9 Hot Formed BendsInduction bends are to be installed at the below-above ground transitions (goose necks) at stations orwhere the bend angle is greater than 18ºInduction bends shall be minimum 6D radius which is compatible for use of intelligent pigging devices.A tangent of 1000 mm for each bend shall be provided.The post bending wall thickness of the bend shall meet the minimum thickness requirements forstraight length pipe. Sufficiently thick walled pipe shall be used for induction bends to account for thewall thinning resulting from the bending process.5.11 Special CrossingsCrossing design shall incorporate the minimum design requirements as provided on the alignmentsheets and requirements of the relevant Authority. In general, special crossings shall be installed withstandard wall pipe (unless noted otherwise on the alignment sheets) and shall be cased.
