These crossings have:• 1500mm min. cover from top of carrier pipe to the top of the road surface.• A warning signpost shall be placed on one side of the crossing.• Marker Tape over length of crossing.• Standard wall pipe to the boundary.5.11.6 Railways CrossingsAll railway crossings are bored and cased with:• 1700mm min. cover from top of carrier pipe to the top of the ballast surface including the invertof the table drains.• The casing pipe shall be at least three nominal pipe sizes larger than carrier pipe.• Casing pipe to be installed by horizontal boring method and extend the full width of the railreserve.• End seals at both ends of the casing pipe. Canal is proposed to be crossedby Boring / HDD method. All lined canals are also proposed to be crossed by Boring method unlessotherwise specified by concerned authorities. All other minor canals and nala crossings shall becarried out with conventional open cut method unless directed otherwise by the concernedauthorities. The canal crossings and other water crossings shall be provided with a minimum clearcover of 1500mm.Watercourses will fall into one of following categories. At selected (major) water and HDD crossings,cathodic protection test points will be installed.Note that for each major watercourse crossing, a final detailed design (based on hydrological,geotechnical, stress analysis and visual assessment) shall be carried out before seeking approvalfrom the local authorities prior to construction.Type 1 Water Crossings includes all navigable crossings and rivers and require:• Construction by the Horizontal Directional Drilling or boring.• Heavy-walled pipe with approved abrasion-resistant coating (unless standard wall pipe isnominated on the alignment sheets, then standard wall to be used).• Pre testing of strung pipe prior to installation.• 4 metres minimum cover beneath the riverbed.Type 2 Water Crossings includes large creek, small river crossings and perennial rivers being widerthan 150 metres, and require:• Open-cut construction (unless required otherwise by relevant Authority).• Heavy-walled pipe with concrete-weight coating from defined bank-to-bank or extentconsidered subject to scour and effects of water velocity.• Pre testing prior to installation.• 2.5 meters nominal cover beneath the riverbed (or beneath the predicted scour profile).
