matter and observes each rule identical to it together with itsdocuments. It should be known certainly that explaining theQur’ân also requires being deeply specialized in these fivebranches. In addition, it is necessary to know the hadîths tellingthe reason for the revelation of the âyats. He should know whatthe Salaf as-Sâlihîn said about interpreting the Qur’ân. Hismemory and comprehension should be very strong. He shouldunderstand the siyâq, sibâq and tawjîh of âyats and the like.” [1]Those people who attempt to do ijtihâd and to write Qur’âncommentaries, such as Mawdûdî, Sayyid Qutb and Hamidullah,should read these lines and realize the greatness andexaltedness of Islamic scholars. However, this realization is agreat virtue. Hence, those who not only do not realize thisthemselves and also will not let others realize it are enemiestrying to demolish Islam from the inside under the mask ofMuslim scholars. May Allâhu ta’âlâ protect Muslims againstbelieving such insidious enemies of Islam! Lest my dear readersshould be taken in by wrong and very dangerous articles ofanti-madhhabite people, I deem it proper to give additionalinformation on ijtihâd in the following.45 - IJTIHÂD: Today, many of the symptoms of the end ofthe world have appeared and spread far and wide. One of thesesymptoms is that the number of the ignorant will increase andmen of knowledge will decrease. The ignorant will be authoritiesin the religion and mislead people. These symptoms are writtenin detail in the hadîths written in Mukhtasar at-tadhkirat al-Qurtubî and in al-Birgiwî’s Wasiyyat-nâma. Then, Muslimsshould be vigilant. They should not believe every word. Theyshould not believe those who do not mention the Ahl as-Sunnascholars and their books but extract meanings from âyats andhadîths according to their own minds in their khutba, books andpapers. The non-madhhabite people are either heretics orunbelievers, both of whom have always disguised themselvesas religious men and deceived and misguided Muslims. Tolearn the truth concerning the âyats and hadîths about whichthese heretics talk, we should search and find the meaningswhich the sholars of Ahl as-Sunna gave them. To do this, weshould read the dependable ’ilm al-hâl books. The Ahl as-Sunna scholars studied all the âyats and hadîths minutely,[1] Izâlat al-khafâ, p. 21.- 184 -
