psychopathic. Such defective people are deprived of a greatspiritual support and are in a very deplorable condition. As oneof the European men of idea has said, “Piousness is greathappiness, but I could not attain this happiness,” so TevfîkFikret, one of the religion reformers in our country, ridiculedIslam and Muslims in his poem “Târîkh-i qadîm”, but he couldnot help expressing the need of having îmân gushing out fromhis poetic spirit in his following lines:“This loneliness is a loneliness like the loneliness in the grave,To believe! That is the spiritual embrace in that loneliness.”The Oneness of the Creator whose existence is necessarycan also be explained in this way: if there were more than onecreators, their combination would not be wâjib al-wujûd (thenecessary, indispensable, being), because the existence of acombination needs the existence of each of its parts, and thebeing whose existence is necessary should not need anything. Then, no combination can be wâjib al-wujûd. The combinationof the parts whose existence is necessary would be neitherindispensable (wâjib) nor dispensable (mumkin), for thedispensable being would not exist by itself and needs a creator.Accepting the existence of this creator distinct from thecombination would be contrary to the combination’s being wâjib, while considering this creator to be in this combination wouldcome to mean that something would create itself, which isimpossible. For example, if the combination of twoindispensable parts were indispensable, this combination wouldalso be dispensable because it needs the existence of both itsparts, which is illogical. If the combination of the two weredispensable, it would have to be nonexistent. This explanation, that wâjîb al-wujûd (the IndispensableBeing) cannot be more than one, rebuts the naturalists who saythat everything exists by itself and is wâjib al-wujûd. Indeed, asexplained above, let alone that everything exists by itself as awâjib al-wujûd, it is impossible even for a creature to be a wâjibal-wujûd.The irreligiousness which has been propagated by theprogressives imitating Europe up to now has been in the natureof disbelieving Allâhu ta’âlâ. For instance, many have said, “Theproblem is whether Allah exists. If there is Allah, I willimmediately believe all the religious knowledge.” But recently, seeing the new steps taken in science, especially the- 87 -
