wa sallam) said in the Hadîth ash-sherîf:“Fear Allâhu ta’âlâ and cling to good intermediaries inorder that you may obtain the things you wish. Do not clingto evil intermediaries! I swear by Allâhu ta’âlâ within WhoseOmnipotence and Will I exist, that nobody goes from thisworld to the next world without completely taking hissustenance, which has been determined in eternity.”Another idea which the enemies of Islam frequently repeatis, “The scholars do not encourage Muslims to earn money. Bysaying that this world is transitory they alienate Muslims fromthis world.” However, the duty of religious scholars is not toteach Muslims their needs and advantages which they couldknow and understand through their instincts, that is, theirnatural actions such as feeling for nipples to suck, as soon asthey are born. “Earn money, do not become destitute, stop yourhunger, put the morsel into your mouth, rest when you gettired...”; it is not necessary to tell these not only to humanbeings but even to animals. The duty of religious scholars is toteach useful and luminous teachings such as not to forget aboutthe next world while obtaining worldly advantages, to observeother’s rights and justice, not to follow the nafs, to trust in Allâhuta’âlâ and not to be slack in working and thus to add a spiritualpower to one’s own power.Question: “Having misunderstood qadâ’, qadar andtawakkul, Muslims have become lazy and then their moralityhas been spoiled and they have dived into evils. Isn’t thatright?”Answer: It may be right. When such evils as flattery andmendacity appear in some Muslims, they will wholely forgetabout qadâ’, qadar and tawakkul. Then what must be done isnot to correct their understanding but to make them believeagain. If, instead of doing this, qadar and tawakkul are spokenill of, they will be altogether alienated from these. We should notblame qada’, qadar and tawakkul but condemn their badbehaviors.Tawakkul is not a weakness but a power in Muslims, whopractise tawakkul because it is commanded by Islam. Islam,while commanding tawakkul, prohibits laziness. The âyats,“Endeavour in the way of Allâhu ta’âlâ, which is therighteous way”, and, “The person who has the heaviestburden is Muslim who thinks of both this world and the- 37 -
