Reeves Photography by Larry Dai音 樂 響 起 , 少 女 隨 之 舞 動 起 來 , 優 雅 的 旋 轉 、 俐 落 的當 翻 騰 、 優 美 的 姿 態 , 舞 臺 下 爆 發 出 陣 陣 熱 烈 的 掌 聲 。最 終 , 這 位 名 叫 連 旭 的 姑 娘 以 這 支 名 為 「 在 水 一 方 」 的 舞 蹈 奪得 了 第 六 屆 「 全 世 界 中 國 古 典 舞 大 賽 」 少 年 女 子 組 金 獎 。說 起 自 己 首 次 參 加 國 際 大 賽 便 奪 得 金 獎 的 經 歷 , 只 有16 歲 的 連 旭 並 沒 有 表 現 的 很 興 奮 。 她 說 , 參 賽 主 要 是 想 歷練 一 下 , 增 加 些 舞 臺 經 驗 , 中 國 古 典 舞 是 她 的 事 業 , 前 方的 路 還 有 很 長 。遠 渡 重 洋 一 圓 舞 蹈 夢連 旭 出 生 在 臺 灣 , 從 小 就 喜 歡 跳 舞 。「2007 年 , 我 第一 次 在 台 北 看 到 了 『 神 韻 藝 術 團 』 的 演 出 。 當 時 的 感 覺 很奇 妙 , 覺 得 自 己 應 該 成 為 舞 臺 上 那 些 姐 姐 中 的 一 員 。」 見連 旭 有 這 樣 的 想 法 , 她 的 父 母 便 送 她 去 學 舞 蹈 , 學 的 正 是「 神 韻 」 演 員 們 表 演 的 中 國 古 典 舞 。「 我 記 得 那 時 舞 蹈 班 裏 有 很 多 小 朋 友 , 大 家 年 紀 都 很小 , 學 得 不 太 認 真 , 好 多 人 都 在 那 裏 玩 兒 。 可 我 不 是 , 我 一 直都 在 很 認 真 的 學 , 就 感 覺 跳 舞 很 快 樂 吧 !」 在 連 旭 十 歲 時 , 因為 父 親 的 工 作 原 因 , 一 家 人 搬 到 了 美 國 新 澤 西 。 這 裏 的 廣 闊天 地 讓 連 旭 覺 得 很 新 鮮 , 而 讓 她 更 興 奮 的 是 , 這 裏 距 離 「 神韻 藝 術 團 」 所 在 的 紐 約 僅 一 步 之 遙 , 她 當 年 觀 賞 「 神 韻 」 演 出時 那 種 奇 妙 的 感 覺 , 好 像 真 的 要 成 為 現 實 了 。「 我 11 歲 就 把 自 己 的 資 料 寄 給 了 『 飛 天 藝 術 學 院 』,希 望 去 那 裏 學 習 中 國 古 典 舞 。 可 惜 我 身 高 不 夠 , 沒 能 錄 取上 。 不 過 , 我 也 沒 有 很 失 望 , 因 為 只 是 說 我 不 夠 高 啊 ! 等我 長 得 夠 高 了 , 不 就 可 以 去 了 嗎 ?」 果 然 , 僅 僅 過 了 一 年連 旭 的 身 高 就 達 到 了 標 準 , 她 如 願 以 償 地 進 入 了 「 神 韻 」In 2014, Lian Xu entered a classical Chinese dancecompetition in New York City with a piece of workbased on a 3,000 year old poem.“Rushes and Reeds,” the poem is titled, from the Bookof Odes. “Thick grow the rush leaves; / Their white dewturns to frost. / The one whom I love / Must be somewherealong this stream.”Lian won a gold medal for her performance, whichimparted such a sense of innocent yearning to the audienceand judges that it left their hearts aching.“I think this poem is especially beautiful,” Lian said,in an interview. “It is in another artistic realm. It doesn’tsay who the ‘one’ being searched for is — there’s adreamy beauty to it all.”Lian Xu is now with Shen Yun Performing Arts, theworld’s most renowned and respected classical Chinesedance company. When she is not training andpracticing, she travels with dozens of peers, performingto sold-out audiences at the most prestigious theatresin the world. The lessons that she gained in heraward-winning performance are what has allowed herto excel in an environment where excellence is the rule.One of these lessons is “practice intensively.” Another,is “assimilate feedback.” While choreographing herdance about the poem, she was told that her movement— sweeping her fan across the water, looking for ‘theone’ — was too superficial.22
