Dance DANCE 58 Give your young dancer a rewarding experience that will last a lifetime. Our instructors and classes inspire creativity and expression while teaching technique. Let us share our passion for dance with your child. Dancers gain coordination and confidence, make friends and have fun! (12 weeks). [BM] Dance Class Attire • Adult & Tot: athletic attire • Ballet, Creative Movement & Storybook Ballet: leotard, tights & ballet shoes. • Ballet/Jazz: leotard or jazz shorts/ pants, tights, ballet shoes & jazz shoes • Ballet/Pointe: leotard, tights, technique shoes and pointe shoes • Hip Hop/Jazz: athletic attire, gym shoes and jazz shoes/sneakers • Modern/Contemporary: leotard, footless tights • Pre Ballet/Tap & Dancin’: leotard, tights, ballet shoes & tap shoes • Tiny Toes: leotard & ballet shoes or bare feet Adult & Tot This class takes both the adult and child on a creative journey through movement exploration, creating a bond and awareness of each other. This class helps improve motor skills, build muscle strength, improve coordination and balance, develop rhythm, musicality, creativity, and cognitive development. Most important is that you and your child will get to dance and have fun together! Ballet/Pointe This ballet class is for the experienced student. At least one year of ballet is required. Instruction will include barre, center and beginning pointe work. This class also offers performing opportunities. Ballet/Jazz This class focuses on core dance concepts to teach creativity, vocabulary, and basic dance technique. Children will be taught core dance concepts. Children will learn the foundational movements in ballet and jazz dance technique and how to recognize and demonstrate these movements, as well as combine them to form a dance. This class helps improve motor skills, build muscle strength, improve coordination and balance, develop rhythm, musicality, creativity, and cognitive development. Creative Movement Young children begin to learn the disciplines of dance through a playful approach. We include warm up, mime, rhythm and fine motor exercises, simple ballet vocabulary, and development of large motor skills. Dancin’ Dancers will learn basic ballet technique, tap steps such as shuffle and flap, and explore different Jazz styles all while developing coordination, flexibility and musicality. Hip Hop/Jazz Students will learn the foundational technique for jazz and hip-hop dance, vocabulary, history, and the dance pioneers in the forms. Core dance concepts will be covered, including space, time, force, body, movement, and form, and how to learn and develop choreography for a dance performance. Students will learn to solve problems, express feelings, cooperate, accept and value individual differences, and engage in an activity to increase self-esteem. Modern/Contemporary Students will learn the foundational technique for modern and contemporary dance, vocabulary, history, and explore the different styles of the dance pioneers in the form. Core dance concepts will be covered, including: space, size, level, direction, rhythm and balance. Students will learn and develop choreography for a dance performance. They will learn to solve problems, express feelings, cooperate, accept and value individual differences, and engage in an activity to increase self-esteem. Pre-Ballet/Tap Dancers develop strength, flexibility and musicality while learning basic ballet technique in a traditional ballet class setting. The first part of class is devoted to learning the basic tap elements. Beginning steps include shuffle, flap, paradiddle and many others. Storybook Ballet Using basic ballet technique, classical music and Disney favorites, children will help create a ballet about their favorite stories. Tiny Toes For our littlest dancers who have not been away from mom yet, we cover basic ballet and creative movements set to fun music. We do not teach a choreographed recital piece, although the class is invited to be on stage for the recital and perform a follow-along dance with their instructor. Children must be able to attend class without a parent. 30 minutes: $4.16; 45 minutes: $6.33; 60 minutes: $8.17. • Ample, accessible parking • Comfortable parent lounge
Registration Fall Session: September 9-December 7 (12 classes) • Registration Deadline: September 4 (No class November 25-30) • Class Make-Up: December 9-14 Min/Max: 8/12 • Tiny Toes Min/Max: 6/10 Winter Show Information You will be notified during the first month of dance classes about the Winter Show. The Winter Show is an informal recital with no costumes. Adult/Tot classes are not a part of the recital. Tiny Toes classes do not have a choreographed piece, but do a followalong dance with their instructor. She is a graduate of Lindenwood University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance and Performing Arts. Christina has danced professionally and choreographed for many companies and organizations. Her passion is dance and performing arts, and she believes in quality education in the arts. Her goal at the Glen Ellyn Park District is to inspire and pass on her knowledge and love for the arts to her students.
