This residential building typical of <strong>the</strong> Harz Mountains,<br />

which is painted pink and located at Kronenplatz 12 in<br />

Clausthal is where Robert Koch, who won <strong>the</strong> Nobel Prize<br />

<strong>for</strong> Medicine in 1905, spent his youth. There is a bust<br />

of this famous physician in front of <strong>the</strong> house. Robert<br />

Koch, <strong>the</strong> founder of bacteriology, was born in 1843 as<br />

<strong>the</strong> son of a miner family in Clausthal. Today <strong>the</strong> famous<br />

buildings, such as his birth house at Osteröder Strasse<br />
