Sankt Andreasberg
The National Park Municipality of Sankt Andreasberg, the
mining town (formerly with special rights) situated highest in the
Harz Mountains, is surrounded by colourful mountain meadows.
The climate is great! 200 km of hiking trails through mountains,
valleys and the Harz Mountains National Park, the Harzer-
Hexen-Stieg Hiking Trail, climbing on the high ropes course,
Nordic walking, mountain biking, summer tobogganing, crossbow/archery,
tennis, swimming, the National Park Station and
innovative holiday offerings all go to provide for fun and sport
during your holidays.
The cultural treasures of the former silver ore minor, impressive
witnesses to the historical mining, set the tone of this romantic
mining town. Let yourself be carried away in the world of historical
mining underground in the Samson Pit by driving skills, and
two water wheels, in the Catharina-Neufang Pit, at the Harz
Roller Canary Museum and at the Roter Bär Pit training mine.
Top conditions for winter sports
One of the highest-situated winter sport areas in the Harz Mountains,
Sankt Andreasberg can guarantee snow nearly every year. And when it
has snowed here, excellent conditions await you on Matthias Schmidt
Mountain and Sonnenberg [or "Sun Mountain"]! In winter the big
centres for downhill skiing and snowboarding are located here with the
necessary lifts. The network of cross-country skiing trails through absolutely
wonderful winter forests in and around Sankt Andreasberg amounts
to several hundred kilometres. Sankt Andreasberg offers ideal infrastructure
for cross-country skiing, biathlon, downhill skiing, snowboarding,
tobogganing, snow tubing, snowshoe hiking and winter hiking.
