The six holiday locations in the Upper Harz Mountains (Altenau
with its well-known districts of Torfhaus, Buntenbock, Clausthal-
Zellerfeld, Sankt Andreasberg, Schulenberg and Wildemann) are
not only way up in the Harz Mountains, but also offer all facets of
the Harz Mountains' rich history and culture as well as its impressive
natural surroundings.
The best thing to do is to visit all six of them, because the villages
are close to one another, thus providing ideal destinations
for exploring, whether on foot, for example via the popular hiking
trail Harzer-HexenStieg, by mountain bike through the Volksbank-
Arena Harz, by motorcycle or by car.

Altenau is the town of herbs and spices as well as an excellent starting rting
point for hikes. From the district of Torfhaus, it is just 8 km on the Goethe ethe Trail
up to Mount Brocken.
Buntenbock, a district of Clausthal-Zellerfeld, attracts families with children
especially during the summer months. Enjoy the delight of the children's circus
and the excitement of children's windsurfi ng school.
Clausthal-Zellerfeld, a university town, is the centre of the Upper Harz
Mountains with a rich cultural mining heritage. The Marktkirche zum Heiligen
Geist [Holy Ghost Parish Church], Germany's largest wooden church, is also
located here.
Sankt Andreasberg, the national park municipality near Mount Brocken, is
the mining town (formerly with special rights) situated at the highest altitude
in the Upper Harz Mountains. This winter sports town, which is a health resort
with a certifi ed therapeutic climate, fulfi ls a wide range of holiday dreams
with absolutely wonderful natural surroundings and many sport offerings.
Schulenberg is located out of the way of the through traffi c and has a
breathtakingly beautiful panoramic view over the Oker Reservoir. Active holidays

Wildemann is situated picturesquely in Tal der Innerste ["Valley of the Innermost"].
"19-Lachter-Stollen", a mine open to visitors is an authentic witness
to the historical mining.
