The time has passed when the Harz Mountains were only a place for
outings by families and hikers. Today the Upper Harz Mountains region
in particular is a paradise for bikers and motorcycle enthusiasts.
Be it the tempting rides on sharp-curves and winding roads of
the most northerly of Germany's low mountain ranges or the motorbike-friendly
accommodations – the Upper Harz Mountains are
purely and simply the draw for motorcyclists from all over Germany.
In the Upper Harz Mountains motorcyclists can prove their skills in the
saddle on quite a number of mountain routes and meet kindred spirits
at nearly every parking area along the uphill and downhill routes. The
meet-up place for bikers at Torfhaus, for example, is famous.
Day for day numerous motorcyclists will be found at this large-scale
parking area at an altitude of 812 metres (directly on the main road,
Bundestrasse 4, between Bad Harzburg and Braunlage with a direct
view of Mount Brocken).
Some accommodations and campgrounds in the Upper Harz Mountains
also make special offerings that bear in mind the wishes of each
and every motorcyclist – from secure parking sheds for that beloved
bike to the providing of accessories for motorbike care and a
proper biker supper with steaks and Harz Mountain sausage.
Incidentally: Sankt Andreasberg is especially popular with sidecar drivers.
Among other things, the Winter Sidecar Driver Meet-up takes
place during the Winter Festival in January.
