Neutrality - Impartiality - Trust: The <strong>Town</strong> Clerk’s Office upholds the integrity <strong>of</strong> the<br />
town’s democratic process by ensuring the town voters can rely upon impartiality and<br />
neutrality at our town meetings and elections. We strive for a well-informed public by<br />
maintaining and preserving the <strong>of</strong>ficial town records consistent with the <strong>Town</strong><br />
Charter, local, state, and federal laws, by providing equal and pr<strong>of</strong>essional service to<br />
all.<br />
PREPARATION FOR MARCH 6 th PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY ELECTION:<br />
Reminder: <strong>Chatham</strong> is now 1 Precinct and all votes are cast at the <strong>Chatham</strong><br />
Community Center (702 Main Street). All polls (statewide) are open from 7:00 a.m.<br />
until 8:00 p.m. At Primary elections, voters enrolled in a party (Democrat, Republican<br />
or Green-Rainbow) may only receive a ballot for the party in which they are enrolled.<br />
Unenrolled voters have their choice <strong>of</strong> ballot and will automatically be returned to<br />
Unenrolled status once their vote has been cast.<br />
The deadline to register to vote or change your party affiliation was Wednesday,<br />
February 15 th (the <strong>Town</strong> Clerk’s Office was open until 8:00 pm for that purpose).<br />
Presidential Primary absentee ballots are available. The deadline to apply for an<br />
absentee ballot is before noon on Monday March 5, 2012. We processed 70<br />
absentee ballots the first week they were available.<br />
ANNUAL TOWN CENSUS:<br />
The 2012 annual town census has been delivered. We have had a fairly good<br />
response, but 151 census envelopes were returned to us as undeliverable. If you<br />
have not received your census, please contact the <strong>Town</strong> Clerk, as we may have an<br />
incorrect mailing address. If you have received your census but have not yet<br />
returned it, please do so. Otherwise, you may encounter a delay at the polls.<br />
DOG & CAT LICENSES:<br />
Dog and Cat licenses are currently available. The cost is $10.00 (non-neutered) or<br />
$6.00 (neutered). In the month <strong>of</strong> January we licensed 234 dogs and 34 cats.<br />
VITAL RECORDS:<br />
We recorded the following number <strong>of</strong> Vital Records during the Month <strong>of</strong> January:<br />
Birth Certificates 1<br />
Intentions <strong>of</strong> Marriage 3<br />
Marriage Certificates 3<br />
Death Certificates 8<br />
VOTER REGISTRATION:<br />
We processed 31 new voter registrations and removed 26 voters due to death or<br />
change <strong>of</strong> residence. The total number <strong>of</strong> registered voters at the close <strong>of</strong> January<br />
was: 5,383. Our total number <strong>of</strong> residents was: 6,105.<br />
