Approvals <strong>and</strong> certificates<br />

The st<strong>and</strong>ard VDE 0660-500 /-504; EN 60439-1/-3;<br />

IEC 60439-1/ -3 is one of the most important st<strong>and</strong>ards for<br />

distribution systems. It stipulates the requirements for the safe<br />

operation of low-voltage switchgear assemblies.<br />

The st<strong>and</strong>ard VDE 0660-500; EN 60439-1 distinguishes<br />

between:<br />

• TTA (type-tested switchgear assemblies)<br />

TTA refers to factory-assembled switchgear assemblies that<br />

conform to an established type or system without deviations<br />

likely to significantly influence the performance from the typical<br />

assembly verified to be in accordance with the st<strong>and</strong>ard<br />

DIN VDE 0660-500.<br />

• PTTA (partially type-tested switchgear assemblies)<br />

PTTA refers to switchgear assemblies, including factoryassembled,<br />

type-tested <strong>and</strong> non-type-tested arrangements,<br />

which comply with the relevant test requirements as specified<br />

in DIN VDE 0660-500.<br />

Both versions (TSK <strong>and</strong> PTSK) are equivalent to each other. They<br />

offer the same level of safety <strong>and</strong> the same high st<strong>and</strong>ard of<br />

quality. The difference between TTA <strong>and</strong> PTTA lies in the scope<br />

<strong>and</strong> the type of tests performed.<br />

All switchgear assemblies produced with type-tested components<br />

are required to undergo routine tests (according to<br />

Table 7, sections 8.3.1 ... 8.3.4 of the aforementioned regulations).<br />

These switchgear assemblies are then TTA-approved.<br />

In the case of switchgear assemblies containing both typetested<br />

<strong>and</strong> non-type-tested arrangements, proof must be provided<br />

(according to Table 7 of the aforementioned st<strong>and</strong>ard) that<br />

the latter are derived (e.g. by calculation) from type tested arrangements<br />

which have complied with the relevant tests. These<br />

switchgear assemblies are then PTTA-approved.<br />

7 Type tests<br />

1. Proof of compliance with the temperature-rise limit<br />

2. Proof of insulation resistance<br />

3. Proof of short-circuit strength<br />

4. Proof of the proper connection between the bodies of the switchgear<br />

assemblies <strong>and</strong> the protective conductor by monitoring the resistance<br />

measurement<br />

5. Proof of creepage distance <strong>and</strong> clearance<br />

6. Proof of mechanical functionality<br />

7. Proof of IP degree of protection<br />
