than three credits are an option for some students’ course loads. If some of the credit is<br />
taken in a participating department, a special department course number will appear on<br />
the transcript. Since cooperative education is a credit-granting program, normal tuition<br />
policies are followed during the fall and spring semesters. Tuition costs for the summer<br />
sessions will be one-half of the current tuition rates.<br />
The program is open to students of the University who meet the following requirements:<br />
1. Undergraduate student<br />
2. Sophomore class standing or above<br />
3. Minimum 2.00 to 2.25 grade point average, depending upon major; Employers may<br />
have higher GPA requirements<br />
4. Signed permission of the student’s advisor and department chairperson’s approval of<br />
the internship prior to placement<br />
Modifications of any internship requirements for credit must be previously approved in<br />
writing by the student’s department chairperson and the Cooperative Education Office.<br />
All interested students should contact the Cooperative Education Office at the Henry<br />
Student Center (84 W. South Street, Ext. 2950) as early as possible to facilitate the<br />
internship application process.<br />
Washington Semester Program<br />

As part of an Inter-institutional Agreement with American University, Wilkes students<br />
can spend a semester in Washington, D.C. in a full credit program consisting of<br />
supervised seminars, a highly competitive internship and a final research project or<br />
elective. Upon successful completion of the Washington Semester Program, students<br />
earn 12-16 American University credits (depending on program choice) that can be<br />
transferred to Wilkes. Students can choose among 13 distinct semester programs<br />
including American Politics, Economic Policy, Foreign Policy, Int’l Business and Trade,<br />
Int’l Environment and Development, Journalism, Justice, Peace and Conflict<br />
Resolution, Public Law and Transforming Communities. Students participating in the<br />
program will be billed at the Wilkes tuition rate and may be eligible for a scholarship<br />
from American University. Wilkes institutional aid will not apply.<br />
Requirements:<br />
1. Must be second semester sophomore - senior<br />
2. Minimum of a 3.0 GPA<br />
3. Approval from academic advisor<br />
