child to grow into a responsible
citizen in society. The scripture
explains in Proverbs the
importance of such discipline.
The scripture also explains how
relationships are important and
how we should treat each other.
Relationships between husband
and wife, children and parents,
authority and employees are
also explained, and instruction
given as to how each should
esteem the other. Instruction is
also given about church, worship
and what pleases God.
The Word of God is a treasure
house of instruction which provides
insight and wisdom to the
seeker. However, in our society,
many people feel the Bible is
out-dated and its instruction is no
longer needed. This could not be
further from the truth. More than
ever scripture is needed in our
homes, our churches, and in the
work place. Ask any missionary
in the field and they will tell you
the importance of the scripture in
their lives. Ask the parent whose
child has strayed, and they will
tell you of the precious promises
they cling to. Ask the widow or
widower the comfort God’s word
brings on the lonely nights they
now spend without that loved
one by their side, and what
about the Pastor who preaches
from God’s word constantly to
instruct his flock on daily living.
All these and more have down
through the years given witness
to the strength acquired by walking
with God on a daily basis.
God’s Word is more than just a
book; it is the very heart of God
and His plan for humanity. God’s
Word provides instruction about
salvation through His Son Jesus
(John 3:16). The Old Testament
reminds us today that God is
a just God and judges our sin.
The New Testament reminds us
of God’s grace through Christ
Jesus and how we can be forgiven
of our sins. Throughout the
scriptures we find love, mercy,
forgiveness, comfort, guidance
and grace. So is the scripture
out-dated? Can the word of
God still find a place in our lives
today? Jesus said it this way:
“In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God… In the
beginning was the Word, and
the Word was with God, and the
Word was God” (John 1:1, 14).
