His algorithm development contributions have included elliptic marching and semidirect<br />

methods; domain decomposition; pseudospectral and multigrid methods; modified<br />

method of characteristics; and solution adaptive and variational grid generation.<br />

He and his staff at Ecodynamics were instrumental in performance assessments for<br />

the - .S. Department of Energy;s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. With Dr. Stanly Steinberg;<br />

Roache contributed to symbolic manipulation use in CFD.<br />

Roache;s pioneering development of the grid convergence index and the method<br />

of manufactured solutions provided widely accepted standards for code verification<br />

2012;; he critiCued philosopher Karl Popper;s falsificationism—scientific<br />

theories cannot be proved; they can only be falsified—removing this impediment to<br />
